looking out over the baythe bridge rio-niterói,  praia de icaraíin niterói - rio's sister city, ilha fiscal, and the coastline towards the região dos lagos (baixadas litorâneas) are visible on clear days. -  

the cable-car, nicknamed the 'bondinho' in portuguese was built in 1908 by augusto ferreiro ramos, a brazilian engineer. since opening in 1912 the cable-car has become famous around the world and is able to carry 75 passengers at one time.
