the cave is located in the heart of the world famous tijuca national park, which is filled with iconic peaks and geographical landmarks. the most common way to reach the cave is on the trail to the pedra da gávea, which reaches a remarkable 842 meters above sea level.

the pedra da gávea is a mountain made up by a huge monolithic granite block  - its is one of the most famous rock formation in rio, easily visible from many beaches of the zona sul and of the zona oeste.
