named in honor of the conservation efforts of baron escragnolle, gruta bernardo de oliveira is a nearby cave in the tijuca forest - while modest, it is worth a peek. a large opening cuts into the rock, to reveal a sizeable hall in-between, and offers visitors a chance to explore one of the other impressive caves of the region.

the caves in the foresta da tijuca are all found along what is commonly known as the caminho das grutas or circuito das grutas (trail of the caves).
