the next lagoon along from the ponta negra, is the lagoa de jaconé, just a couple of kilometers further east. a stunning lagoon that is fed by the grande de jaconé river, and various small streams that travel down from the mountains, the lagoa de jaconé has been better preserved than some of the other lagoons in the area - officially covering portions of both saquarema and maricá, the lagoon is in the small municipality of jaconé, and is 13 kilometers outside the main city of saquarema. nearer still is the beautiful beach, praia de jaconé, which stretches out for four kilometers, with eerie greenish waters, and conventional salt marsh vegetation.

famous in the region, the jaconé is a medium sized lagoon, 2.8 kilometers long and 1.3 kilometers wide, with dense mangrove swamps surrounding it, which house a great diversity of animal and plant species. the waters of the lagoon are largely calm, also with an intriguing green tint, whilst it is common to see a variety of boats out on them.
