another shallow coastal lagoon, the lagoa de guarapina is slightly further east along the atlantic coast than the lagoa de maricá, and it has the famous ponta negra on its other flank. a little smaller than the maricá, the lagoon has a length of 6.5 kilometers, but remains a popular destination for visitors, especially during the weekends and holidays.

still in the municipality of maricá, the lagoon is boarded on its south bank by some of the delightful old houses of the region, and then the picturesque praia de ponta negra, which boasts five kilometers of golden shore, before meeting the ponta negra lookout, which enables visitors' exquisite views of the atlantic ocean.
