at the end of the war, the soldier left and went
back to france. after his departure, the girl on the
island spent every day of her life on top of the rock looking at
sea and waiting for him to return.
the rock was then named
'pedra da moreninha,' loosely translatable as 'rock of the
brunette'.
the
casa de artes de paquetá, a cultural center home to
several exhibitions, cultural events, and workshops is located
right on the praia da moreninha, and can be easily spotted by
the artwork created using the trees in front of its entrance.
