also nearby is the maria gorda tree - literally 'fat maria', with over 100 years of age and 7 meters of circumference, and tamoios park. moving north around castle point (ponta do castelo) is praia do catimbáu, which features a panoramic view of the guapimirim environmental protection area and the serra dos órgãos mountains on the mainland. sitting next to catimbu is praia do lameirão, name after the perennial mud there (lama), and that is known more for crab fishing than it is for swimming or watersports.
