buses and minivans are not allowed on this road, thus visitors going via public transportation have to add a 15 minute walk from the closest bus station to get to the sand.   

on the side of the morro das andorinhas, the rock formation dividing praia de itacoatiara from praia de itaipú, there is a very small but extremely popular beach nicknamed prainha de itacoatiara. less than 50 meters in width, this small beach is the part of itacoatiara, where the waters are always calm, attracting families with small children.
