there are lifeguards on duty on the small pier along the canal uniting the lagoa de itaipú to the beach. behind the beach, the large sand dunes are fun to climb, and from the top the views of the lagoa de itaipú are a must. children here love racing and descending from these steep dunes on cardboards and even body boards. a word of caution for travelers climbing the dunes, as occasionally sharp and rusted objects have been found under the sand at the edges near the grass.
