the archeological site of
duna grande (big
dune), and the
museu de arqueologia de itaipú (itaipú's
museum of archeology)
offer very interesting options to visitors in the area, by
displaying a variety of objects used by the native population
prior to the colonists' arrival in 1500.
also near praia de itaipú, the
serra da tiririca,
a park declared a world's biosphere reserve by
unesco (united
nations educational, scientific, and cultural organization)
in 1992,
can be seen from the top of the dunes. the tiririca, or
cyperus rotundusm,
is a plant common to this area.
