built with black and white portuguese stones, the calçadão of copacabana, landmark sidewalk of this beach, was built in 1906 and re-designed by the famous landscape architect burle marx in 1970. the wavy pattern, built with black and white portuguese stones, is meant to represent the waves of the ocean and the shore. the calçadão is seen by many local residents as a meeting point for arts, entertainment, friends, and celebrations.

always rich of interesting people to watch, this promenade is often mentioned by cariocas as one of the best parts of rio. the fishermen's colony at posto 6 is one of copacabana's most charming secrets - at this colony fishermen can be observed preparing their nets and boats, and fresh fish can be bought daily.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
