camboinhas beach faces the ocean in the south zone of niterói, between piratininga and itaipú.

the adjoining neighborhood of the same name is one of the more upscale areas of the city, and the cleanliness and beauty of the beach reflects its 'noble' location.

though in a geographical sense the beach at camboinhas is essentially an extension of itaipú beach, its distinct name is a reference to a ship that ran aground there, and is separated from itaipú by a  theitaipú lagoon, and by a small canal dividing the beach.
