piratininga beach is an ocean-facing beach in the south zone of niterói, just west of camboinhas. like many beaches here, it adjoins a residential neighborhood of the same name, though piratininga is different in that it also shares its name with a large lagoon on the north side of the neighborhood. ilha do veado (veado island) and pedra da baleia (rock of the whale), both located nearby, are popular natural attractions. piratininga is fairly large, with a length of nearly 3000 meters, and it is divided into two sections - prainha ('little beach') spanning 500 meters to the west, and praião ('big beach') spanning 2500 meters to the east.
