on jurujuba beach, the igreja de são pedro, a church named after the saint patron of the fishermen, stands right on the shore. 

starting form são pedro church, ever year on the 29th of june a traditional procession celebrates the saint, and festivities and offerings last throughout the day.

this meaningful religious and folkloristic  festivity is called festa de são pedro dos pescadores, and it is also celebrated in july on other beaches including praia de itaipú, praia pedra de guaratiba, praia de sepetiba, on lagoa rodrigo de freitas, and with a procession of fishing boats across guanabara bay.
