at a glance

the g. r. e. s. caprichosos de pilares (pilares' capricious) was founded in 1949 with the intention of competing with other established samba schools in the samba parades - which is reflected in the symbol of the school: two snakes facing each other.

the two following theories concerning the choice only confirm this clear intention - one of theories maintains that the choice of the snakes was meant to give the school mascot that could compete with other predatory animals like the eagle.

a second theory, also embodies the notion of facing the adversary head-on with courage and optimism, in particular as an homage to the brazilian expeditionary force during world war ii.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
