at a glance | annually at the end of august, more than 100 cyclists compete in the Tour do Rio, an internationally recognized bicycling race. covering almost 800 kilometers across rio de janeiro state, and going through more than 20 cities, the bike tour begins and ends in Rio de Janeiro capital, and gives athletes and fans the opportunity to enjoy some of the region's most beautiful landscapes - Rio das Flores, Tręs Rios, teresópolis, nova friburgo, cabo frio and rio das ostras, to name a few - the race is divided in 5 stages - one stage per day, ranging in difficulty and length. Climbing peaks and curving down mountains are just some of the challenges comprised in this tour, and for every stage there is a winner - The athlete who sums up the most points in each phase and comes in first on the last one, will be named the champion and given the characteristic yellow shirt. |
