in brazil saint anthony is considered to be the marriage saint, and it is common for girls to pray to him for a husband and to write the names of three possible boyfriends and place them under the pillow the night of the 12th -  with the name drawn on the morning of the 13th of june.

another lovely carioca tradition (simpatia), for those wishing for marriage or a soul mate, is placing a statue of saint anthony upside down in the refrigerator, and leave him there until the wish is granted.

as with the february 14th holiday however, it is common for loved ones to exchange cards, candy, flowers and other romantic gifts - several bars, clubs and restaurants will have special musical events  for the night.
