it is one of rio de janeiro's primary cultural exports, as it is now taught globally, and people flock to rio just to learn from the greatest martial artists alive - the capoeira world championship is held annually in may in rio de janeiro, and over 40 countries compete for the title.

rio gets back to light-hearted festivities with the election of king momo (rei momo), the king of carnival, the queen, and the princess - the representatives of carnival season  chosen based on their carnival spirit and samba dancing ability.      

king momo, has been appearing in brazilian carnivals since 1933, when the first king momo was chosen to appear during the carnival in rio de janeiro - this innovation in the merrymaking was much enjoyed and several other brazilian cities have since adopted a king momo for their carnivals.
