Oxóssi is the Orisha (african deity) of hunting and of the animals - included in meals because it is Oxóssi who provides the food by giving hunters wisdom, agility, and all they need to succeed in the hunt. the main and final event is a parade carrying the saint's statue from the church of são sebastião dos capuchinhos in the tijuca neighborhood to the metropolitan saint sebastian cathedral, where it is blessed by the archbishop of rio de janeiro during a most impressive mass, complete with choirs and an orchestra. | january | |||
