Until the mid-20th Century over 90% of Brazilians were Catholic, and the country continues to be the largest Catholic country in the world although Since then, there has been a radical and rapid growth in Evangelical Protestantism. Carioca's deep religiosity can be partly attributed to the fact that many of the early Brazilian government gave large numbers of the farms and factories to churches and monasteries, ensuing that everyday practice was inextricably bound to the church. Christian celebrations of christmas and Easter are of fundamental importance to Brazilians, because of this deep cultural, historical and personal connection to the Christianity. | january | |||
