Easter is another period of great significance in the Brazilian calendar - Good Friday and Easter Sunday are the key days in which people come together to celebrate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through processions, masses, rituals and plays. The spiritual and religious aspects of the date are supplemented by the more playful and traditional customs that exist, particularly for children - The 'Easter Bunny' brings a wealth of chocolate and painted eggs filled with sweets to the young, who can be found hunting for their treasure all around the country. It is also an important carioca custom to use this important holiday to come together and show gratitude for one another's company over special culinary dishes, like the Almond delicacy called 'Paçoca' and traditional Easter songs. | january | |||
