in a celebration of emerging talents in the world of film, festival brasileiro de cinema universitário is dedicated to films produced by academics from brazil and all over the world - the aim of the festival is to promote audiovisual production developed in the university environment, whilst also inciting an exchange between brazilian and international productions.

the festival was created in 1995, by a group of students in rio, and has been an annual fixture ever since - the festival has a competitive element to it, offering a total of eight awards, whilst a number of previous winners have gone on to successful careers in the cinema world.
