the streets are decorated with blue and white flags, the nossa senhora church is adorned with yellow lilies and the day is filled with masses, processions, music and fireworks - in reality a culmination of festivities, as many will have been celebrating novenas since november 29th.

the culmination of the festival is at 5pm in the afternoon, when thousands of devoted catholics line the streets for a traditional procession, through the city streets.

the celebrations continue into the evening when traditional stalls are set up in aterro do carmo.  

the event is supported by the cultural foundation of angra, and is an extremely popular event in the city, attracting worshipers from all around.
