and on the last day of december, new year´s in angra is a multi-day event, usually beginning two or three days before new year's eve with concerts on the beach that encompass rock, reggae, electronic, brazilian pop, funk and samba.

the beach is the place to be on new year's eve as well, with more music and fireworks - wearing all white is a brazilian custom - though some with the means and inclination will opt for a more exclusive setting - a popular spot of this nature is the isla privelége nightclub.  

then, on new year's day, a multitude of boats of all types are decorated to take part in the procissăo marítima de ano novo, an annual nautical parade of colorful vessels getting all the way to ilha grande.
