adding a rainbow of color to nova friburgo, is the festa da cerejeira, during the bloom of the cherry blossoms.

it is based on the traditional japanese custom of enjoying the beauty of cherry blossoms, known as the 'sakura', and is organized by the japanese community in nova friburgo.

the flowering often takes place for two weeks in june, during which time the local community take the opportunity to eat, drink, and have fun, in a cloud of sakura petals.

each year nova friburgo does its own traditional carnival parade down avenida alberto braune that extends throughout the town ending in front of the main gate nova friburgo has five samba schools, and like the parades in rio capital, each school chooses a theme and choreographs a flamboyant parade competing against rival schools in hopes of winning for the year.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
