at a glance

perhaps one of the most obvious success story is the re-development of the favela vidigal, which after the pacification saw remarkable influx of national and international investments, turning the community into one of the most sought after residential locations of its kind, and spurring the constructions of bars and high-end boutique pousadas and hotels.

one development issue that the city is facing is the removal of hundreds of houses inside the communities where development and construction needs to happen for the urbanization of the surrounding areas.

hundreds of favela residents had to be relocated to new homes to make way for wider roads and other infrastructural additions necessary for proper urbanization and adequate police patrolling - avenida pavãozinho, in pavão, and estrada custódio mesquita, in cantagalo were two such instances.    arrow-back      arrow-forward
