at a glance

in 2014, chapéu mangueira, along with four other favelas, contributed to the first edition of the gastronomic tour of communities in rio, (circuito gastronômico sebrae) showcasing bamboo shoot pastries and the deliciously sweet quindim.

this show was designed to demonstrate and enhance the gastronomic potential of communities, promote local business and contribute to job creation.

chapéu mangueira is one of the favelas that evidences most clearly the touristic and cultural potential of pacification - once much more dangerous and socially precarious, the community has opened its doors so that residents and visitors alike can share and enjoy its environment, privileged views and culture.

located just above chapéu mangueira, and almost an extension of it,  morro da babilônia is another good example of the benefits of pacipication, now home to a number of sight-seeing tours and a wealth of commerce.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
