at a glance | The Museu a Céu Aberto da Providência (Open Air Museum of Providence) was the very first favela museum created in the city of Rio, an honor it earned because of the community's acclaimed title as first ever Rio favela. The museum was designed by the architect and urban planner Lu Peterson, as part of ongoing efforts to re-vitalize the port area of the city. It was designed to be 'alive' - in the open air - not characterized by silent observation, but by dialogue and engagement. |
