the actual islands in the canal do bacalhau cannot be reached via taxi or bus - as taxis or buses can only get to the beach da barra de guaratiba, after which the wild shores can only be reached via small boat in about 10 minutes leaving from the small beach praia do canto, easy to find just walking along praia da barra de guaratiba, the main beach close to where the bus stops.

praia do canto is along rua parlon siqueira, where the hiking trail starts -  here there are small boats available for private trips - these small boats can take visitors to any of the islands in the canal, for a cost of about r$ 40 per person an up, depending on the type of tour or ride requested.
