ilha nova, or 'new island' in english, is located north of the bom jardim island.
they're part of the wetlands in the eastern edge of the sepetiba bay, where a set of streams and canals create an archipelago of sandbanks covered in mangrove.
among these islands are also capăo and ilha suruquai to the east of 'ilha nova', and the cavado and the ilha das baleias to the west.
