at a glance

the shipwrecks near laje da cagarra and ilha rasa are also attractive diving spots - there are a variety of companies in the rio area that offer diving tours.

despite their designation, the oceanic islands are nevertheless close enough to the mainland to do some serious boating.

they are all accessible by kayak or canoe, and ilhas cotunduba (by morro do leme)and alfavaca (barra da tijuca) attract stand-up paddlers - surfers who stand on their boards and use paddles to propel themselves across longer distances.

fishing is also excellent in the islands, due to the aforementioned abundance of marine life and the possibility to fish either from a boat or from land.    arrow-back      arrow-forward
