at a glance

this island is subject to strong, sudden, waves that can reach meters above sea level and catch people by surprise - accessible via small boat, we recommend hiring a local guide easily found at nearby praia do canto.

to the west of ilha rasa de guaratiba lies the ilha da marmbaia, a very long and narrow island resembling a peninsula that separates sepetiba bay  (further west) from the atlantic ocean.

the ilha da marambaia is owned and operated by the brazilian navy, and thus has remained largely undeveloped - with some 42 kilometers of natural and completely preserved beaches, this island is often used for movie and television productions.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
