at a glance

the end of the 1980s brought a massive transformation of the musical trends in brazil, which at that time were romantic or northeastern - influenced music was absolutely dominant in the markets causing most of the publishers concentrate their attention in these genres.

with musical production being focused in a specific area, most bands within the country started to face grave problems - the record publishers' narrow strategy was solely advantageous to the well established artists, to the detriment of any new musician trying to have his or her own work broadly released - this was the origin of the brazilian phonographic crisis of the 1990s.

suddenly forced to find other ways to finance and promote their own work, many bands started to transform to adapt to this new reality - self-financing became rather usual and a change of paradigm was eminent.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
