the electric guitar is one of the greatest paradigm shifters in the history of music -  its new sounds and rhythms brought along several different genres of music, rock being the starting point of them all.

rock and roll of the 1940s and the 1950s evolved quickly, becoming the primordial form of several other genres which would, on their own, absorb inspiration from almost every musical area, giving birth to modern popular music.
