Rio de Janeiro's neighborhoods I Love Rio logo Rio de Janeiro's neighborhoods Rio de Janeiro's neighborhoods Rio de Janeiro's neighborhoods Rio de Janeiro's neighborhoods

at a glance

the southern edge of the neighborhood is a continuous strip of sand, that goes from the largo do banco, more popularly known as the tijuca lagoon canal - on the east, to the marapendi municipal ecological park in the west. the tijuca lagoon is a part of the district that is not much frequented, if not by locals, but that is home to a set of small islands with charming restaurants and gorgeous views, with ilha da gigóia being the most famous among them.

the marapendi municipal park, another important landmark of the region, is a preserved area accessible via small boats, and facing a part of the beach called praia da reserva ecológica - one of the most beautiful and untouched parts of the shore. beyond the park, the beach continues as part of the recreio dos bandeirantes neighborhood.
