at a glance

Located in the southeastern tip of the island, ribeira is renowned as one of the gastronomic centers of Rio de Janeiro, specializing in seafood.

It also has a famous and highly frequented fish market each Saturday. It is home to the cozy and attractive praia da engenhoca (Engenhoca Beach), as well as praia da ribeira (Ribeira Beach), where there is a beautiful statue of the African Goddess, Yemanja, mounted charmingly on a rock, slightly out at sea. It also has a lively and buzzing square called the Praça Iaiá Garcia, or 'Missy Garcia Square'.

on this link by wikimapia it is possible to see a  satellite view of the district of ribeira - we publish more information about ribeira on this page.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
