at a glance

well-known as a fabulous background for any picture, as well as the title of a popular chico buarque song, the dois irmãos have become a symbol of the southern zone of rio and of the beach life in the city.

the hill derives its name from the twin peaks that extend skyward. from the peak (539 meters above sea level) one has a 360 degrees view that includes other notable sights such as christ the redeemer, lagoa de freitas, pedra da gávea, the massive rocinha favela, the entire southern zone of the city and even niterói across the bay.

actually, the mound consists of two seperate mountains in one massif - irmão maior at 539 meters, and irmão menor at 439 meters. arrow-back      arrow-forward
