recreio dos bandeirantes (recreio) is home to some of the best beaches in rio de janeiro, as part of a gorgeous biological reserve, which consists of relatively deserted beaches, embedded in tropical forest. miles of unspoiled and 'undiscovered' beaches with white sand, pristine water, and stunning nature are a true spectacle - grumari beach, parinha beach or macumba beach are easily reached by taxi, all three are ideal for surfing and scuba diving. the largest of the local beaches is the recreio dos bandeirantes' beach, which starts in the barra da tijuca's and extends all the way to pontal's rock - it is a prime surf spot and there are several surf schools along it dedicated to the sport.
