the pedra do pontal is situated in an idyllic location, right in the middle of the lush recreio beach, and the peaceful pontal beach, both of which can be viewed in tranquility from the rock. this part of rio de janeiro is one of the less developed areas of the city, as it is in the young, western neighborhood of recreio dos bandeirantes, which helps it to maintain a more easygoing atmosphere.

the beaches and the pedra do pontal attract a variety of different crowds, who come to undertake numerous different activities around the island - surfers and families enjoy the waves on both sides of the rock, while fishermen gather on the pontal side, where their picturesque boats rest on the sand.
