however, one of the most satisfying endeavors to undertake at pedra do pontal is the relatively easy hike to its peak, at a modest altitude of 120 meters, which takes about 25 minutes to complete.  

throughout the hike there are a number of spots to stop and appreciate the surrounding beauty, but it is at the top where the real payoff lies - with an exceptional view of rio's coastline, including the pedra da gávea, tijuca and pedra branca parks in the distance.

the rocks can get quite slippery after rains, and a minimum of 24 hours of dry weather is recommended before attempting a hike.
