following the coast northwards from this point, it is possible to find the square 'praça mareshal âncora', and then the important and well known public square ' praça xv', which is also the location of the naval museum, the são josé church and rio de janeiro's legislative assembly (assembléia legislativa do rio de janeiro), among other important buildings. a little further north is the access point to ilha das cobras (snakes' island) and ilha fiscal (fiscal island) - moving away from the coast, a rich choosing of attractions opens itself to those keen to explore. president vargas avenue leads to the candelária church, the santana field, the caxias' duke palace (pantheon), and the brazilian central railway station (central do brasil), to list only a few of the local landmarks.
