at a glance
connecting the heart of rio de janeiro with the northern and western areas of the city, and to baixada fluminense, the central do brasil train station is the figurehead of one of the most historically significant railroads in brazil.

otherwise known as pedro ii station, central do brasil was one of the first train stations built in brazil, initially enabling travel to various cities around the country, and essential for the development of the country - the building is located in the downtown neighborhood of rio, on avenida presidente vargas, just next to the significant praça da república, home the historical park campo de santana.

inaugurated during the reign of dom pedro ii, the train station was one of the great triumphs of his tenure, with an interesting history - the idea for the train station, and a transnational railroad, was first discussed during the early years of brazilian independence.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
