at a glance

the most recent trasformation of the community began back in 2000, when it was chosen to participate in the government's programa grandes favelas (great slums program). this urban intervention, included infrastructural upgrades and brought in an auxiliary rail line.

in 2012 jacarezinho was occupied by the UPP - unidade de policia pacificadora, with the effect of significantly improved safety and decreased organized crime. this in turn has had a positive effect on the real estate market, with property prices rising and developers buying properties.

among the most charming points of interest in jacarezinho are the largo do cruzeiro (cross lake) and praça concórdia (harmony beach). the community also has its own school and is home to the popular samba school g. r. e. s. unidos do jacarezinho (united jacarezinho).
