the neighborhood of lins de vasconcelos has undergone renovations funded by the city hall - after which only a handful of favela communities remain within the slopes of the neighborhood. the sub district of boca do mato is geographically closest to the favelas, which as a result offers some particular challenges in the fight against crime. it is also the area where, the houaiss antónio state school district is located.

lins de vasconcelos has produced a a number of famous residents, like singer/songwriter, robert carlos, and samba artist, mussum, which give it prestige. the neighborhood is also home to two samba schools, sres lins imperial and the unidos de cabucu.
