Presented by the  Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, the study Avaliação do Projeto Esperança: Um Estudo de Caso na Pavuna, RJ -  Evaluation of the Projeto Esperança (Hope Project) : A Case Study in Pavuna, RJ, by José Eduardo de Souza e Luciana Mourão aims to evaluate the Projeto Esperança, a social project that helps children, adolescents and families struggling to maintain basic conditions for survival.

It used qualitative research with interviews and focus groups, which included recorded transcripts with managers, financiers, partners, community leaders, implementers and program beneficiaries. The content analysis shows that all target groups surveyed, were able to point to results obtained when carrying out the Project, in terms of improving the beneficiaries' lives with regards to the goals of the project, as well as other unplanned gains.

Despite the achievements, the research also shows that the Projeto Esperança didn't accomplish in its entirety its proposed objectives and there are no real signs that such objectives will be achieved at the end of the project in 2009.
