at a glance

pavuna is a neighborhood in the north zone of rio de janeiro and it is the central district of the pavuna administrative region. it is borderd by acari, barros filho, coelho neto and costa barros. pavuna means 'place of darkness,' named after the dark valleys and cliffs which border the pavuna river.

after 1910, the rail stop at pavuna station became an integral part in the growth of the district, attracting migrant workers to travel into the city for factory positions. today pavuna offers a stable transportation system that allows residents to travel to neighboring cities with ease. it is in close proximity to major shopping areas in nilópolis and são joão de meriti with convenient public transport options.

under the administration of mayor eduardo paes, in an effort to restructure the neighborhoods which ranked lowest in human development, the city launched an initiative that gave heavy investment to the streets of northern pavuna, in the area known as maravilha. arrow-back      arrow-forward
