at a glance

The neighborhood of Parada de Lucas is situated in the northeast of the North Zone - zona norte of Rio de Janeiro, bordering the Duque de Caxias district, which is part of the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro state, but not part of the city itself. Parada de Lucas is surrounded by vigário geral, jardim américa, irajá, vista alegre and cordovil.

Like several other neighborhoods close to the shores of the guanabara bay, Parada de Lucas's main access routes are the railroad and Avenida Brasil, or 'Brazil Avenue'. Diverging from this large avenue is Rodovia Washington Luiz, or 'Washtington Luiz Road' which travels to the north, connecting to Duque de Caxias.

The lands that now constitute the Parada de Lucas neighborhood once belonged to a prosperous landlord called José Lucas de Almeida. This landlord donated some of his land for the construction of the local train station, which in 1949 was named Parada de Lucas, or 'Lucas's Stop', in his honor; hence the name of the neighborhood today. arrow-back      arrow-forward
