at a glance

the Parque Anchieta neighborhood  is one of the most northern 'carioca' neighborhoods - the region beyond it is considered part of the municipality of Nilópolis, outside of the city of Rio de Janeiro.  It is surrounded by the  neighborhoods of anchieta and ricardo de albuquerque to the west, vila militar to the south, and realengo to the west.

Parque Anchieta is predominantly residential and its main access routes are the railroad and a few important roads that connect it to nearby neighborhoods and to the Nilópolis municipality to the north.

Anchieta was founded at the end of the 19th century, following the construction of a train station in the area.  It was named in honor of the Jesuit father, José de Anchieta.
In the second half of the 20th century the demographic of the neighborhood altered significantly following the inauguration of the Túnel de Anchieta, or 'Anchieta Tunnel', in the 1950s. arrow-back      arrow-forward
