ricardo de albuquerque is a neighborhood located in the north zone (zona norte) of rio. the bairro (neighborhood) is bordered by realengo, parque anchieta and anchieta; guadalupe, deodoro and vila militar.

the neighborhood's name derives from the estação de ricardo de albuquerque (ricardo de albuquerque rail station), which was opened in 1913. it commemorates the railroad's former director and poet, josé ricardo de albuquerque.

the bairrio's origins go back to the engenho nossa senhora. de nazaré (our lady of nazareth mill). the mill was inherited by capitão (captain) bento de oliveira braga's family. the property it sat in an elevated position, overlooking the lowlands of the island. arrow-back      arrow-forward
