at a glance

tubiacanga is a neighborhood in ilha do governador in the north zone of rio de janeiro, close to the site of the tom jobim international airport. when the airport was extended in the 1940s, many of the residents who made their homes near flexeiros beach or são bento beach were relocated to the tubiacanga neighborhood.

tubiacanga held an important position in the beginning of the 20th century, as a grand provider of fruits and legumes for old municipal market that would take place in praça xv. beyond this, the neighborhood also provided plenty of sand for construction works throughout rio de janeiro.

for those looking for a relaxing place to enjoy the beach, tubiacanga is a great option. the beaches have calm and tranquil waters, and there is a well-known beach-side restaurant called capitania dos copos(captain of the cups) with a menu of diverse dishes that go beyond your typical seafood offerings. arrow-back      arrow-forward
